Volume 710 Pencil Set
Description
Pay tribute to musician and painter Jerry Garcia with the hypnotic, swirling colour of Blackwing's evocative Volume 710 Pencil Set.
Best known as the singer and guitarist of legendary American psych-rock band The Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia helped to fuse the rising psychedelic movement with his love of bluegrass and Americana, leading to musical touchstones like 1970's record American Beauty. The band's live shows earned a cult following all their own, drawing more on jazz improvisation than on traditional set formats, and inspired generations of jam bands that followed in their footsteps. Alongside his career as a musician, Garcia was also an inspired painter, whose art featured a similar genre-restlessness and a love for evocative, abstract forms to those found in his songs. Volume 710 is decorated with a section of his painting 'Curves and Lines', and takes its name from Garcia's house at 710 Ashbury Street, squarely in the heart of the San Francisco revolution that shaped so much of '60s American culture.
The 710 pencils feature a soft graphite core, which is perfect for both drawing and songwriting.

With roots stretching back to the 1930s, the Blackwing 602 was the go-to pencil of artists, writers and designers for more than 60 years. After Blackwing loyalists had scoured the earth to find the last of their favourite pencils, Blackwing reintroduced the 602 in 2010, bringing the legend back to life for a whole new generation.
