- LAMY Al-Star (Copper Orange) - Great pen, writes well. Review by Tyson
I bought this pen for three reasons. 1. I have exams coming up, and can only use blue or black ink, and didn't want to clean out one of my other pens to use blue cartridges in it. 2. I wanted to put some J. Herbin ink in an orange pen, once it arrived (Ambre De Birmanie, for anyone curious), and again, wanted to keep all my other pens inked up. 3. This was the first Fountain Pen I saw, and it's started me on a journey. I may be new, but I'm officially obsessed. I didn't buy one of these back then because I wanted to see what else was around. I chose to buy one now because I wanted to have the pen that started it all. And it was limited edition, from a few years back - my opportunity was running out.
Overall, this pen writes well and feels good in-hand. There's a satisfying soft click when the cap goes on or comes off, and the clip's fairly springy. I ordered this with the medium nib because there wasn't any fine ones left, but I have since switched a fine nib onto it (the cartridges last l0nger that way, and I have several exams to write in a few weeks, besides, with my writing, it looks neater). I can't really see any downsides to this pen, it's not overly heavy, has no posting issues, writes well, and is quick and easy to change cartridges or converters. Enough said. As a side note, I love the colour. It is a really coppery orange. Having worked with real copper, it's not bang on, but I think LAMY made the right colour decision. All in all, this is a great pen, and oozes quality. (Posted on 11/10/2017)
